Holland Simplex 5th Wheel Shoulder Bolt

Holland Simplex 5th Wheel Shoulder Bolt

Hyundai Dolly Simplex 5th Wheel Campaign

It has been determined by SAF Holland that an unknown percentage of their Simplex SE fifth wheel may have a deformed spacer, if found may prevent the lever bar from fully articulating, thus preventing the sliding lock from engaging the jaw in the coupled position around the trailer kingpin. This is Not a safety related issue as this condition is evident to the driver when visually inspecting the release handle and position of the red indicator in accordance with the proper coupling procedure, per SAF Holland. The Holland campaign has been reported to NHTSA by Hyundai Translead, thus it's imperative we get all affected units inspected in a timely manner. Units involved 600364-600535 07' Hyundai dollies 600851-601413 08' Hyundai dollies Inspection and or repair time allotted: 15 minutes per unit. Visually inspect the cover plate/lever bar connection on the underside of the fifth wheel. The fifth is affected if a hex-head fastener is used to secure the connection as shown in Figure 1. The fifth wheel is unaffected if a pin is used to secure the connection as shown in figure 2. SAF-Holland will be sending out to each location 20, RK-11131 parts kits which contain 1 (shoulder bolt, washer and coupling decal). More will be available if needed by contacting myself or Louann Champion. See attached Simplex Bolt & Spacer Replacement procedures. Once a unit has been inspected or repaired affix a Green dot in the corner of the 90 inspection sticker. Green dots will be sent out to each location. Also it's imperative that as units are inspected or repaired that the 5th wheel serial number is recorded and reported along with the unit number on the weekly campaign inspection form.  The data plate is located on the operator lever side of the 5th wheel. The campaign form is attached as well and has been updated to allow for this reporting. TMT Billing codes: System: 5900 Vehicle Coupling RFR: 044 campaign

One thing on the Simplex 5th campaign for ALL models I failed to mention. We need to know if you replace the shoulder bolt or not and just simply inspected the unit. If you did replace the shoulder bolt please indicate so by marking an X next to the unit number on the weekly campaign report form you send in. Also it would help if you commented whether it was done or not in the TMT Ro section comments. Also everyone should be sending in a weekly campaign completion form whether you did campaigns or not. We want to track this information.
