Unable to Launch frmservlet (Java Troubleshooting)

Unable to Launch frmservlet (Java Troubleshooting)

Introduction

When installing Java on a new machine, you may run into a case where you navigate to cloud.emdecs.com and launch the frmservlet file (.jnlp) and the file just refreshes and does not open. This is typically caused by the file opening with the wrong default app type which is set by windows

Identifying the issue

When this occurs, select your windows search bar in the bottom left hand of the screen and search for Default Apps

Open the Default Apps window, scroll down and select "Choose Apps by File Type" then find .jnlp, the associated Default App should be Java(TM) Web Launcher
If your listed Default APP for .jnlp files is not Java(TM) Web Launcher, follow the steps in the section below

Setting Java(TM) Web Launcher as the default app

If your system has not registered the Web Launcher as an available app, follow the steps below

First, right-click your .jnlp file which should be located in the folder it was downloaded to and select open with...

If the Java(TM) Web Launcher does not appear, click More Apps followed by Look for another app on the PC (scroll down to the bottom of the list)
Make sure to check off "Always use this app to open.jnlp files" to avoid doing this each time

Next, navigate to your Java Install Folder and select the app javaws.exe

Your Java Install Folder is typically found in your Program Files or Program Files(x86) Folder
C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_301\bin\javaws.exe
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_301\bin\javaws.exe
  1. Select the Java Folder
  2. Select the newest version
  3. Select the Bin Folder
  4. Select the app javaws.exe

Select OK to apply and your system should now be able to open the program. If you run into security errors please view this document here: https://help.emdecs.com/portal/en/kb/articles/article
